Description

Houses for sale in Fort Whyte and Whyte Ridge, Winnipeg have communities that are quiet, family communities consisting primarily of detached homes. Whyte Ridge's two man-made lakes (East Lake and West Lake) provide residents with picturesque views and plenty of walking and cycling paths to enjoy the outdoors. Just minutes from shopping, restaurants, and other services, this spacious subdivision is built on former farmland south of the townsite historically known as Fort Whyte. The nearby FortWhyte Alive nature centre features trails, an aquarium, and bison-viewing to educate and entertain families.

Fort Whyte and White Ridge form the MLS® area 1P. The greater city area, considered simply Fort Garry, has neigbourhoods running alongside both sides of Pembina offering a range of housing prices from bungalows in Fort Garry proper, to large multi-storey homes in the older area of Whyte Ridge and the new ever-expanding burbs of Bridgwater, to farm-style abodes down in St. Norbert, where the city meets the prairie. Due to the constant growth of the Bridgwater area, more and more amenities like restaurants and shopping continue to pop up, however the area lacks primary and secondary schools.

Homes at Fort Whyte

Fort Whyte, next to Whyte Ridge, is a quiet, family-oriented corner of the southwest, built out mostly between the mid-80s and the mid-2000s. So the housing is newer, mostly detached single-family homes with some townhouses, on well-kept streets. It is a settled, comfortable area that draws families who want a modern home and a green setting.

Nature at the door

This is one of the greenest parts of the southwest, and it is the big draw. Whyte Ridge's two man-made lakes, East and West, come with walking and cycling paths, and FortWhyte Alive is right there, a reclaimed nature reserve with trails, an aquarium and a resident bison herd. For families who like the outdoors, that is hard to beat.

Buying here

The homes are newer, so you mostly skip the old-house worries, but on any resale, check what has been done since the build and whether it was permitted, and give the basement and drainage a look. Townhomes come with a condo corporation, so check its rules and fees. Selling here, the newer construction, the green setting and the lakes-and-trails lifestyle are your strong points.
